Mozart's Birthday 2010

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, the capital of the Archbishopric of Salzburg (present day Austria) on January 27th of 1765. After falling ill while in Prague during the premiere of his opera, "La clemenza di Tito" on September 6th, and being taken care of by his family for months, he died at 1 AM of "severe military fever" on the 5th of December of 1791 at age 35. He was buried in a common grave (a pauper's grave, which was contemporary Viennese custom at the time) in Vienna, Austria.

Mozart, a child prodigy on violin and piano, having begun composing and performing for the nobility around the age of five, is one of the most well-known composers of all time. He composed hundreds upon hundreds of works in various styles over the course of his life, repaving the way for composers around the world. Mozart was a lavish man, often dressing in very fancy clothing, enjoying drinking, dancing, and laughing. He enjoyed exuberant jokes, sometimes scatological, that were sometimes seen as offensive by others, although humor of that sort was not all that uncommon in his day. Mozart was a man who always enjoyed parties and having a good time with loved ones and friends.

His 254th birthday will be celebrated in 2010 with concerts around the world featuring some of his notable opera arias and other popular pieces. His legacy through music shall undoubtedly live on forever. Here's to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, prost und herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag!
